Introduction

My name is Lori. My husband Pieter and I moved out of the cities during 2021, bit the bullet and moved onto completely raw land, in a pine forest, in some hilly country, 40 miles from the nearest big city. We have no water, power, natural gas, or public roads provided by government or its contractors. We raise dairy goats, have enough chickens to make any city manager mad, grow a garden, and live peacefully without monthly bills treatening our serenity. It doesn't come without effort. There is no bottomless pit from which we can draw money. Most tasks, like building a barn, a house, putting up fences, accumulating fuel for heat, and the list goes on, are done by ourselves, or it doesn't get done.
